Cantine Barbera Menfi Nero d’Avola Lu Còri
From vineyards that enjoy mild winters, warm dry summers and great diurnal temperature variation, the berries are ripe and sweet and smell of sunshine and gentle Mediterranean wind. Vines that live this close to the ocean in south-western Sicily turn the sea brine into vibrant tasty salinity. The winemaker, Marilena Barbera, is a third generation farmer. She still tends to vines of Inzolia that had been had planted back in the 1920s.
Employing only indigenous yeast, Marilena uses a small wooden 44-pound press to manually squeeze her grapes. Spontaneously fermenting, the fruit sits with skins and stems before the juice is pressed and poured into the tank where it begins its official fermentation.
Cantine Barbera Menfi Nero d’Avola Lu Còri has a bright ruby red color with intense shades of violet. On the nose are marine aromas, scents of mulberries and raspberries, pickle notes and a touch of light spice.The palate it is fragrant and full, with soft velvety tannins that shape a vibrant, Mediterranean personality.
