Description
Marquès De Càceres Reserva Rioja
Located in Cenicero, in the heart of the D.O.Ca. Rioja Alta, Marquès de Càceres was founded in 1970 by Henri Forner, a Spanish entrepreneur who trained in Bordeaux. With strong French influence shaping its philosophy, the winery quickly became one of Spain’s most internationally recognized and respected producers. Marquès de Càceres is known for its commitment to elegant, fruit-forward wines that balance traditional Rioja character with a refined, modern sensibility. The estate sources Tempranillo-dominant fruit from trusted growers across the region’s finest terroirs, working closely with viticulturists to ensure quality from vine to bottle.
The Vintage
2019 was a mild and humid year, with an early bud break due to spring humidity and warm temperatures. A hard summer brought strong heat and drought, occasionally relieved by storms, followed by dry periods of excellent vegetative health that led to optimal ripening. The harvest was slow and gradual, benefiting from remarkably stable weather with no storms, widely regarded as a great vintage.
Vineyard & Terroir
Fundamentally clayey-limestone soils, with plots in Rioja Alta featuring ferrous subsoil and Rioja Alavesa with limestone origins. Grapes are harvested by hand, with meticulous attention to determining the optimal harvest time for each individual plot and variety.
Winemaking
Bunches are destemmed with great care, followed by alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature. Prolonged maceration with the skins extracts deep color, elegant aromas, and a smooth, enveloping tannic structure. Malolactic fermentation takes place in both oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, after which the wine is transferred to fine-grained French oak barrels.
Aging
20 months in French oak barrels, divided equally between new barrels and barrels of one and two years old, with racking every 5 months. The wine then rests in bottle for a minimum of 2 years before being released to market.
Guía Peñín Review: 90 Points
Deep and brilliant crimson in color. A very intense wine with a powerful yet delicate nose, offering noble wood, light spice, hints of vanilla and cocoa against a background of dark fruit, with touches of liquorice and woodland that lend personality and elegance. Very expressive on the palate, full-bodied and refined, with delicious berry flavors laced with toasty notes. A very classy wine.
