Description
200 Gallons Reserva Red
During Prohibition, a legal loophole known as Section 29 allowed American households to produce up to 200 gallons of wine annually for personal use, equivalent to over a thousand bottles. This little-known chapter of history inspired winemaker Jaime Quendera to craft the 200 Gallons Reserva, a tribute to the resourceful home vintners of that era.
The wine is built around Alicante Bouschet, a Portuguese grape variety that was surprisingly popular among Prohibition-era home winemakers in California for its ability to produce deeply colored, richly flavored wine. Jaime sources his fruit from vines that are a century old, prized for their low yields and concentrated character. The wine spends twelve months aging in custom-built casks, with French oak on the top and bottom for a touch of spice and American oak along the sides contributing notes of vanilla.
