Description
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Single Barrel Bourbon
Perfection takes time and Elijah Craig has made it worth the wait. Fresh limestone spring water and a special yeast recipe that has been a family secret for generations are just some of the reasons why Elijah Craig, a true “Small Batch” Bourbon before the term even existed, is considered one of the world’s greatest Bourbons.
This special offering from Elijah Craig was hand selected by the staff of Elma Wine & Liquor. This release is the “sister” barrel to our first-ever Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Single Barrel. During our selection earlier this year, two of the three samples stood out immediately, and we knew both deserved a place in our store. Though this one arrived a bit later than expected, it’s certainly worth the wait. Like the first barrel, it carries a 9-year age statement and, by pure coincidence, the same 126.7 proof. For those curious, our original sample was tasted at 128.1°.
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Single Barrel Bourbon presents a classic amber color and opens on the nose with layered oak, caramel, and spice, lifted by a gentle touch of perfume and alcohol. After a short rest, deeper notes of brown sugar appear, joined by delicate hints of orange citrus and cocoa. The palate follows with honey, oak, and bright citrus, whether one leans toward lemon or pear and apple, supported by light tannin and a quiet thread of spice. Cinnamon rises through the mid-palate, then eases into a final wave of well-rounded sweetness. The finish is pleasant and lingering, offering a soft, warming spice with proof that stays remarkably well-integrated and composed from start to close.
