Description
Makers Mark Elma Wine & Liquor Private Select Bourbon
We, from, Elma Wine & Liquor, found ourselves back in Kentucky this past June. Part of this trip has already been delivered to us in the form of our Knob Creek Rye Single Barrel pick at the beginning of October. The second part of this trip was selecting this year’s edition of our Maker’s Mark Single Barrel. While the single barrel is provided, we get the option to add five different oak staves, ultimately adding a total of 10, to create a unique barrel of Maker’s Mark. Maker’s Mark then inserts those staves into the barrel and ages in for 9 weeks. This is the same process as Maker’s 46, but with that product, they use 10 Maker’s Mark 46 Staves.
This signature bottle of Makers Mark features a combination of oak staves that we all pitched in on to create this one of a kind bourbon. Our combination features: 2 Baked American Pure 2, 0 Seared French Cuvée, 3 Maker’s Mark 46, 4 Roasted French Mendiant and 1 Toasted French Spice staves. Maker’s Mark then ages the whiskey with these specific staves for another 9 weeks before bottling at cask strength.
The staves add additional elements to the original Maker’s Mark product in the following ways:
- Baked American Pure 2 (P2) – American oak, low convection oven toast, classic cut (vanilla, honey and bright fruit flavors)
- Seared French Cuvée (CU) – French oak, infrared toast, ruffled cuts (Creamy, toasted caramel and almond)
- Maker’s Mark 46 (46) – French oak, seared and infrared toasting, classic cut (dried fruit, basking spices and caramel)
- Roasted French Mendiant (Mn) – French oak, low toast in convection oven, classic cut (Milk chocolate, coffee and dried fruit)
- Toasted French Spice (Sp) – French oak, high and low toast in convection oven, classic cut (Clove, ripe fruit and orange peel)
