Gulp Hablo Garnacha
Bodegas Parra Jiménez, located in the high desert plateaus of La Mancha, is a family-run winery founded by brothers Francisco, Javier, and Luis Parra. With deep agricultural roots and a strong commitment to sustainability, the Parra family embraced organic viticulture in 1993, long before it became common in the region. They farm biodynamically near Las Mesas, Cuenca, with vineyards like Entresendas, known for its alluvial soils, and Cuesta Colora, featuring chalky clay slopes and heat-retaining pebbles. Their wines are made from a diverse mix of native and international grape varieties, co-fermented using ambient yeast and bottled without malolactic fermentation to preserve natural freshness.
Driven by a vision of ecological balance, the family expanded their efforts to create a self-sustaining agricultural system. In addition to growing grapes, they raise livestock and cultivate garlic, grains, peas, and lentils, earning certifications for both organic and biodynamic farming. Since 2017, winemaking has been led by Pablo Parra, the next generation of the family. Educated in Ribera del Duero and mentored by renowned winemaker Juan Antonio Ponce, Pablo has introduced new techniques such as orange wines, pétillant naturels, and clay amphora aging. His leadership continues to push Bodegas Parra Jiménez forward as a standout producer rooted in tradition and innovation.
Bright, translucent ruby-red with a slight purple edge. It has a youthful vibrancy and a light to medium body in the glass, often appearing slightly hazy due to minimal filtration. The nose is expressive and fresh with notes of red berries, especially strawberry, raspberry, and cherry, alongside hints of crushed violets, white pepper, and a touch of earthiness. There’s often a slight herbal or savory edge, like thyme or dried Mediterranean brush. The palate is juicy, fruit-forward, and energetic. Flavors of bright red fruit (think ripe strawberry and red plum), complemented by subtle spice and soft tannins. The wine is light on its feet, with a smooth, silky texture and lively acidity that gives it lift and drinkability. The finish is clean and refreshing, with lingering red fruit and a hint of minerality.
Gulp Hablo Garnacha pairs well with herb-roasted chicken, grilled vegetables, and semi-soft cheeses, thanks to its bright acidity, soft tannins, and fresh red fruit profile.
