Description
Iron Side Cabernet Sauvignon
Ironside Cellars is a label built on a straightforward conviction: that great California Cabernet shouldn’t require a great California budget. The wine is produced under the Latitude Beverage portfolio, a company with a track record of finding exceptional fruit in overlooked or undervalued appellations and turning it into something genuinely worth drinking. Ironside has earned the attention of critics, landing a “Best Buy” designation and 91 points from Wine Enthusiast, a nod that speaks less to luck and more to a consistent commitment to quality at an honest price.
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon draws its fruit primarily from California’s Red Hills Lake County, a high-elevation AVA situated roughly an hour north of Calistoga. There, vineyards climb the slopes of an extinct volcano to over 2,000 feet above sea level, where the altitude tempers an otherwise hot and dry climate, slowing ripening and coaxing natural balance between sugars and acidity. The result is a wine with the warmth and generosity California is known for, but with a freshness and structure that keeps it lively rather than heavy.
The wine pours a deep, rich ruby. On the nose it leads with cedar and ripe blackberry, clean and inviting from the first pour. On the palate it is full-bodied yet smooth and approachable, with bright red cherry at its core layered over notes of spice, smoke, black currant, cassis, anise, and a hint of violet. The finish is long and toasty, with expressive acidity that keeps things lively and a savory, almost mineral quality that adds real depth and complexity. Fruit-forward and polished, with enough character to hold your attention from the first glass to the last.
