Description
Serra del Conte Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi
Monte Cònero is a steep, rocky peak rising sharply from the sea near Ancona, with white beaches accessible only by boat or foot through Cònero Park, a regional park established in 1987. The nearby villages of Portonovo, Sirolo, and Numana attract many tourists. The Marches region is mostly hilly, with slopes ideal for vine cultivation because they are protected from sea winds and get plenty of sunlight and warmth. Traditional vine training methods using trees or pergolas have been replaced by vertical systems with double arches. The Marches produces two to three million hectoliters of wine annually, with whites making up 60 to 70 percent of the total. The region’s wine quality has steadily improved, supported by fair pricing and strong DOC production levels.
Verdicchio from the hills of Castelli di Jesi in the Classic DOC area is known for its fresh, delicate character and is best enjoyed young. Grown on soils of medium consistency, the wine is made entirely from Verdicchio grapes, with yields around 14,000 kilograms per hectare. The grapes are harvested at full maturity, softly pressed, and the juice is cold-settled before undergoing fermentation at a controlled temperature. Afterward, the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve its purity and freshness. In the glass, it appears a light straw yellow with greenish reflections. The bouquet is fine and fruity, while the palate offers a fresh, savory, and smooth experience. Ideal when served between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius, this wine pairs particularly well with appetizers and seafood.
