Solroom Red Blend
The Winemaker
Jamey moved to Napa Valley from his home in South Carolina to manage Mustards Grill in 1996. Simply captivated by the community, lifestyle, and culture of wine country, he found himself quickly growing roots. By 1998, he had begun his winemaking education at Turley Wine Cellars where he would remain in his apprenticeship until 2005. During that time, he spent a summer sabbatical working for the Seysses family at Domaine Dujac in Morey-Saint-Denis and laid the groundwork for Whetstone Wine Cellars, which he founded in 2002. Jamey shares in our vision to create beautiful wines that over-deliver on quality, and his passion for the project shows in the glass.
Vinification
Letting the grapes lead the process allows for purity, from how the grapes are fermented – sometimes with a cold soak, aged in stainless steel – the duration is as long as the juice requires, and aging in mostly French oak that’s twice and thrice used with about 5% new American oak. Ripeness is based on a myriad of factors that Winemaker, Jamey Whetstone, takes into consideration when harvesting, blending and aging Solroom Red Wine. All factors are imperative, including the seasonal weather changes, the vintage, how the fruit has dropped, the crop size and utilizing decades of instinct to determine acidic balance, tannic structure and overall depth of the fruit.
Dark plum in color. Ripe, forward nose of black, brambly fruits, dark cherry & baker’s chocolate. Delicious, full-bodied flavors of blackberry, dark cherry & baker’s chocolate with fine tannins & perfect measure of acidity to tie it all off with a bow.
