The Crossings wines are a pure and elegant expression of Marlborough, New Zealand’s most prominent winemaking district, known for delivering Sauvignon Blancs with explosive flavors and zesty vibrancy.
With vineyards in the Awatere and Wairau subregions of Marlborough, surrounded by mountain ranges, a wild river and the Pacific Ocean, The Crossings create perfectly balanced and refreshing wines.
The extreme climate of hot days and cool nights produces slow-ripening grapes, creating the intense, concentrated fruit flavors and crisp acidity that have become synonymous with New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
Sustainability
The Crossings is accredited by Sustainable Wine growing New Zealand, a New Zealand industry standard for sustainable wine growing.
We actively measure, reduce and offset all of our emissions. We are targeting a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030, with the goal to become carbon positive by 2050. 20% of our annual energy requirements are provided by solar, wind and bale burning, with a view to increase this to 60% by 2024. 2/3 of our carbon footprint is linked to packaging and freight so we are shifting to lighter bottles, reducing cardboard and ink use, and utilizing more efficient shipping routes.
We have a long-term plan to support nature and increase biodiversity in the vineyard, creating a healthier, more resilient ecosystem through a number of nature positive initiatives. Increasing wetland areas to capture rainwater, with extensive native tree planting to prevent erosion and provide a safe environment for wildlife. Interrow planting to improve soil quality and provide a food source for insects, reducing the need for mowing. Waste product (pips, skins, stalks) is processed into nutrient dense compost at a purpose-built facility, adding valuable organic matter to the vineyards soil.
The Wine
The Crossings is an elegant expression of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. New Zealand sun, cool nights, and sustainably grown grapes produce wines of intense varietal character and vibrant acidity.
Marlborough experienced rather high rainfall during the growing season, resulting in high moisture levels throughout the vineyard. Dewy mornings combined with good crops created a sense of nervousness heading into vintage. However, the weather remained stable, which meant we could pick our fruit when desired and the concentration and health of the fruit was outstanding.
The resulting wine is showing the wonderful hallmarks that our Marlborough vineyards are known for – highly concentrated flavors, with underlying purity and minerality.
The grapes were harvested in ideal condition, picking at the point of optimum flavour development. Parcel of grapes were picked and fermented separately, allowing us to enhance varietal character using carefully selected yeast strains. A long, cool fermentation took place to retain purity of flavours. The wine was then blended, stabilized and filtered prior to bottling.
Crossings Sauvignon Blanc radiates purity on site with its pale yellow color. This wine has an enticing with vibrant nose, with fresh herbs, passionfruit and mandarin aromas. The palate is brimming with pure fruit and bright fresh acidity that leads into a complex and mineral finish. Enjoy with both fresh and cooked seafood dishes such as classic fish and chips, fresh oysters and bbq prawns.
