Dark Arts Amburana Oak Stave Finished Rye Whiskey

Dark Arts Amburana Oak Rye comes from a blending, re-barreling, and finishing house in downtown Lexington, Kentucky, where tradition meets experimentation. Inspired by the alchemists of old, Dark Arts uses underutilized maturation techniques to craft unique, elevated whiskeys that push beyond convention.

This release takes a minimum 6-year-old rye whiskey and finishes it with custom toasted Amburana Oak staves. Amburana Oak aka “Brazilian Oak” has been used in Brazil for many decades to age Cachaça. It has only recently made its way into the US whiskey market. When we began our wood experiments, we wanted to enhance our rye whiskey with the natural wood flavors Amburana Oak imparts. Our master alchemists worked to create a custom toast profile to match our Rye whiskey profile. The combination is powerful and warming but not overdone.

Dark Arts Amburana Oak Stave Finished Rye Whiskey features a rich mahogany color. On the nose, buttercream and cinnamon sugar mingle with apple and ginger. The palate recalls warm apple pie à la mode, French vanilla ice cream, and a drizzle of caramel, accented by Vietnamese cinnamon. The long, layered finish offers toasted coconut, red fruits, and a final hint of freshly baked rye bread.
