Our Journey

After two years of waiting, it is finally here. We at Elma Wine & Liquor are thrilled to announce the arrival of one of our favorite store picks of 2025: Rare Character Bourbon.

Their barrel program is unique. We are assigned the wax color, but had full creative freedom to design the top half of the label. With our barrel scheduled to arrive in September, we planned ahead with a football-themed release to align with the season. Adding to the anticipation, the final proof of the bourbon was not revealed until nearly two months later, when we received the official barrel confirmation.

This bottling represents some of the oldest bourbon currently available through their single barrel program. The barrel, PLT-092, features a mash bill of 78% Corn, 13% Rye, and 9% Malted Barley. While the exact source remains undisclosed, we do know it was both distilled and aged in Kentucky. The proof comes in at a bold yet balanced 134.96 (67.48%).

Amber in hue. The nose opens with layers of orange zest, baking spices, toasted oak, cocoa dust, brown sugar, tobacco, and a touch of toffee. On the palate, bright orange zest leads with underlying pear, followed by waves of baking spices and oak, subtle char and nuttiness, and a sticky sweetness reminiscent of cherry syrup. The finish is long, lingering, and warmly oaked.
