Description
The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
The Balvenie Distillery has called Dufftown, Speyside home since 1892, when founder William Grant laid its foundations near the ancient ruins of Balvenie Castle. One of only a handful of Scottish distilleries to maintain its own malting floor, Balvenie grows and malts a portion of its own barley and oversees every stage of production in house. That commitment to craft has made it a benchmark of Speyside tradition for well over a century.
The Caribbean Cask 14 is the creation of Balvenie’s legendary Malt Master, David C. Stewart MBE, himself the pioneer of cask finishing in the Scotch whisky world. The whisky spends 14 years maturing in traditional American oak casks before being transferred into specially prepared Caribbean rum casks for a final period of maturation. Those finishing casks are no afterthought: Stewart selected his own blend of West Indian rums, filled American oak casks with them until they were properly seasoned, then emptied the rum and replaced it with the ripe, honeyed Balvenie spirit. The result is a smooth, well-rounded Speyside single malt that marries the distillery’s signature character with warm, tropical sweetness. Bottled at 43% ABV without added coloring or chill filtration.
