The Wathen-Medley family has been distilling bourbon for eight generations, making them one of Kentucky’s most historic and enduring whiskey families. Their legacy stretches back more than a century before Prohibition, and today the brand remains one of the last independent, family-owned Kentucky bourbon houses. After Repeal in 1933, Thomas Aquinas Medley quickly reestablished the family name by releasing young whiskeys, gradually building reserves until mature bourbon could once again be offered. His son, R. Wathen Medley, later carried the torch, earning recognition for pioneering the single barrel concept—hand-selecting standout casks to share with Kentucky’s distilling elite, a tradition that ultimately inspired Wathen’s Single Barrel Bourbon.

Now led by Sam and Charles Medley, the family continues to honor its heritage while overseeing every stage of production. Distilled under contract at a Kentucky facility but guided by their direct involvement, each whiskey is crafted using their time-honored mash bill of high corn and high malted barley with just a touch of rye. This recipe, unchanged for generations, ensures that Wathen’s Single Barrel and other expressions remain a true reflection of Kentucky Straight Bourbon tradition.

Chosen blind by the family, from barrels aged between 6 and 9 years, the distinctive Medley mash bill of high-corn, high-barley, and low-rye packs rich baking spice, maturity and complexity, and a clean, dry finish into every glass; 250 years of bourbon-making tradition can be tasted in every bottle. This single barrel bourbon clocks in at 47% ABV, making it dangerously easy to mix with and just as tempting to sip straight.
