More than four decades after founding Caymus Vineyards alongside his parents, Chuck Wagner set out on a new winemaking journey, crafting a Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from a wider range of California farmland. Inspired by cherished memories of family meals shared over a good bottle of wine, Chuck envisioned a delicious, approachable Cabernet made from under-explored corners of the state. Bonanza Cabernet Sauvignon was born from that vision, a celebration of the richness and fortune California has to offer.
In Chuck’s own words: “My parents and I started Caymus Vineyards in 1972. In the early years, we enjoyed my Dad’s homemade wine with our daily lunch before returning to the field. Of course, Napa is now well-known, but throughout our great state, many hills and valleys are yet to be discovered. For some time now I have imagined making a new wine from a broader stretch of California, places my kids and I never tire of exploring. This Cabernet is meant to be shared often, with the same ease and enjoyment as my Dad’s homemade wine.”

Bonanza is crafted from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced across a broad California appellation. As a multi-vintage wine, the Wagner team blends lots from different years and regions to maintain a consistent, satisfying Cabernet style with every release. Aged in oak, the wine develops approachable tannins and a gentle touch of spice throughout.

- APPEARANCE: Medium ruby-red with a deep, polished color
- AROMA: Inviting scents of currants, dried roses, freshly turned earth and toasty oak, with a subtle hint of smokiness
- TASTE: Rich flavors of ripe dark berries, vanilla, cassis and toast, layered with notes of coffee and dark chocolate, all supported by smooth, silky tannins
- FINISH: Long and satisfying, fading gracefully with lingering hints of unsweetened chocolate and cassis
