Description
Bieler Père et Fils Sabine Aix-en-Provence Rosé
The Bieler family has been crafting wine in Provence since 1992, when Philippe Bieler founded Chateau Routas in the Coteaux Varois appellation. His children, Charles and Mira, joined the operation in the mid-90s and helped grow one of the most recognized Rosé brands in America through inventive winemaking and creative marketing. In 2005, the family sold Routas and immediately founded Bieler Père et Fils with a singular focus on what they do best: making exceptional Rosé from the hills of Provence.
Rather than following the crowd to the warmer, high-yield flatlands of Cotes de Provence, the Bielers set their sights on the cooler, higher-elevation vineyards surrounding Aix-en-Provence. Harvesting an average of two weeks later than neighboring appellations, the fruit ripens slowly and naturally, developing the delicate balance of acidity, aromatics and structure that defines their style. The 2023 vintage brought some early spring rain and humidity that added mildew challenges and trimmed crop size, but warm and dry summer conditions allowed for a beautiful harvest stretching from mid-September through late October. Grenache and Syrah anchor the blend, joined by Cinsault, Rolle and the increasingly prominent Clairette as the estate continues to evolve its plantings.
Aix-en-Provence, France
Provence is the oldest wine-growing region in France and the world’s leading Rosé specialty appellation. The Bieler vineyards sit in the hills above Aix-en-Provence, where cooler nights and higher elevation create ideal conditions for a slower, more nuanced ripening. These sites have taken on added importance in an era of climate change, preserving the natural acidity and energy that set this wine apart from lower-elevation Provence Rosés.
