Description
Cockburn’s Fine Ruby Port
Cockburn’s was founded in 1815 and has grown into one of the world’s most celebrated Port houses. Robert Cockburn first arrived in Portugal as a soldier fighting under Wellington in the Peninsular campaigns, and fell so deeply in love with the country and its wines that he stayed to build one of Porto’s most enduring legacies. For over two centuries the house has been synonymous with a distinctive style: mature, fruit-forward, and less sweet than many of its peers, underpinned by a rigorous approach to quality at every stage of production. Today Cockburn’s is owned by the Symington family, one of the Douro’s most respected dynasties, who have continued to invest in the estate and the wines while honoring the traditions that made the house great.
The Fine Ruby is crafted from a blend of young, vibrant wines sourced from the Douro Valley, drawn from multiple vintages to ensure consistency of character year on year. After fermentation, the wine is aged in seasoned oak for two to three years before being filtered and bottled ready to drink, preserving its youthful ruby color and the bright, fresh fruit that defines the style.
Deep, vivid ruby red in the glass, Cockburn’s Fine Ruby opens with an inviting nose of ripe cherries, raspberries, blackberries, and plum, lifted by notes of vanilla, cinnamon, and a hint of cocoa. On the palate the wine is juicy and fruit-forward, medium-sweet with a lively texture, notes of blackcurrant, red berry, and gentle spice, and a smooth, lingering finish with a touch of dark chocolate and cedar.
