Description
Cooper Mountain Pinot Gris
Since 1978, Pinot Gris has been rooted in place at Cooper Mountain. Cooper Mountain’s flagship Pinot Gris is not too sweet and not too dry, considered the Goldilocks of Cooper Mountain’s Pinot Gris efforts. With this balance in mind, Cooper Mountain has crafted a wine that truly captures the spirit of Willamette Valley.
The grapes for the Cooper Mountain Pinot Gris are sourced from three of the oldest estate vineyards, Johnson School, Meadowlark, and Old Vines, spanning 38 acres of volcanic and marine soils at elevations of 300 to 500 feet. The 40-acre Johnson School Vineyard is comprised of windblown soils on the Eastern flanks of the Chehalem Mountains AVA, while Meadowlark Vineyard lies at 300 to 400 feet in volcanic soils. Old Vines Vineyard, planted in 1978, features self-rooted and dry-farmed vines ranging from 500 to 650 feet, producing wines of remarkable complexity and character.
Organically grown and biodynamic, Cooper Mountain Pinot Gris is fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel and aged for 6 months in 100% stainless steel tanks. No additives or fining agents are used in crafting this wine. Harvested in early to mid-September, the grapes yield a wine that is crisp, refreshing, and beautifully expressive of its terroir.
This Pinot Gris opens with pronounced aromas of pineapple, mango, lemon, and grapefruit, with cooler pear notes adding subtle sweetness and mineral notes lending depth and complexity. On the palate, flavors of passionfruit, lime, and orange are balanced by that signature pear sweetness, finishing with lingering minerality and tropical fruit. It pairs beautifully with seafood, poultry, salads, and vegetarian dishes.
