Description
Dashwood Sauvignon Blanc
The Winemaker
Since 1989, Dashwood wines have taken both their name and distinctive style from the Dashwood Pass: a winding road that connects Marlborough’s premier wine growing regions, the main Wairau Valley and lesser-known Awatere Valley.
Both characterised by stony, alluvial soils with low fertility, the vines focus their energy on producing attractive, perfumed fruit, and the cool maritime climate means intense flavours are built up over a long ripening period. We endeavor to craft wines that showcase our region’s remarkable terroir.
Sustainability
By blending fruit from a sustainably farmed estate and grower vineyards in both valleys, our wines are bright, yet textured and intriguing.
We have been tending vineyards and making wine in Marlborough for over thirty years. Our home is important to us, and we see our role as caretaker of this part of the world. We strive to minimize or eliminate any activities that are wasteful or harmful for the environment so that future generations can continue to enjoy our extraordinary landscape.
In an industry dominated by coal-powered glass produced in China, we have chosen to bottle our wines in New Zealand, using New Zealand-sourced, recycled glass, reducing our carbon footprint and supporting our local industry. Our labels are made from sugarcane, a highly renewable material that utilizes an abundant by-product. Over 50 solar energy panels on our winery roof drastically reduces our use of energy from the main grid and even give back to the main grid when we produce more than we need ourselves. We use nature’s lawnmowers ensuring our wines are better for the environment and taste better too. Reducing our need to mow the grass with tractors which use diesel. Our sheep also do a great job of providing natural fertilizer for our vines.
All our vineyards are sustainably farmed and Dashwood winery is Sustainable Wine growing New Zealand (SWNZ) certified.
The Wine
Grapes were selected at full ripeness from Marlborough’s two winegrowing valleys; the Wairau Valley and the Awatere Valley. After harvest they were immediately pressed into stainless steel tanks, cold settled and then racked for fermentation. Yeast strains were selected to enhance the particular aromas of Sauvignon Blanc and fermentation was kept at cool temperatures to preserve fresh aromatics and fruit purity.
A classically Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, balanced, crisp and lively. Distinct and punchy with layered aromas of guava, gooseberry and citrus peel, underpinned with delicate floral and herbaceous notes. A concentrated palate of tropical fruits and minerality with an elegant and energetic finish.
