Description
Deer Run Riesling
Deer Run Winery was established in 2003 on the northern shores of Conesus Lake, fulfilling a lifelong dream of owner George Kuyon. After moving from Ohio to Rochester, NY in 1968 and discovering a passion for winemaking in 1975, George began making wine for family and friends. Following his retirement from Eastman Kodak in 1998, he purchased a twenty-acre plot of farmland and, with guidance from Cornell University, planted a vineyard in 2001 with varietals including Corot Noir, Noiret, Traminette, Valvin Muscat, Vidal, Frontenac, Marechal Foch, and Riesling. The modest five-acre estate vineyard contributes about twenty percent of the winery’s production, with the remainder sourced from Finger Lakes vineyards. Deer Run Winery officially opened on November 23, 2003, and gradually built a reputation through off-site events and its Thursday Night Summer Concert series, which grew from small gatherings to crowds of over 1,000 attendees.
As the winery’s popularity increased, additional production space became necessary. New wine tanks were added in 2013, and by 2020 a major expansion included a new production building, a pavilion for weddings, a café, offices, and a bridal suite. The pandemic briefly disrupted operations, but online orders and curbside pick-up allowed the winery to remain afloat. Today, Deer Run Winery continues to host weddings, serve its award-winning wines, and offer a full café experience, celebrating over 20 years in business while remaining dedicated to approachable Finger Lakes wines. The Kuyon family—George, Joan, Scott, and Marie—reflects on their journey with gratitude for the support of customers and the community that has helped the winery thrive.
A phenomenal Finger lakes Riesling that any wine lover will be glad to have in their collection! We feel that this is the best Riesling we have bottled and hope you love it as much as we do!
