Description
Domaine de Cristia Ventoux Rouge
Domaine de Cristia was established in 1942, with only two hectares of vines, at that time selling all grapes to negociants. When Baptiste Grangeon inherited the vineyards from his father in 1999, he became the first to bottle under the Domaine de Cristia name. Today, Baptiste manages the estate with his sister Dominique across 20 hectares in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, farming entirely organically since certification in 2008. No chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides are used. Vines are treated with copper sulphate, sulphur, and occasional nettle infusion, with only sheep manure as fertilizer. The result is a portfolio of wines celebrated for their finesse, elegance, and unmistakable Southern Rhone soul.
The Ventoux Rouge is a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah, grown in clay-limestone soils from vines averaging 35 years old. Grapes are selected in the vineyard, destemmed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats for three weeks, with temperatures kept low to preserve aromatic freshness. The wine is then aged 15 months in concrete vats, allowing the fruit to express itself without the influence of new oak. Standing out for its floral aromas, notes of fresh fruit reminiscent of garrigue and thyme, and a remarkably rich and concentrated palate, this wine elegantly embodies the characteristics of the Ventoux appellation. It pairs perfectly with a tian of Provencal vegetables or a Provencal beef stew. Drink now through the next 3 to 5 years.
