Domaine des Moriers Beaujolais Villages

Domaine des Moriers was founded in 2005 by two friends united by a shared passion for Cru Beaujolais. Dominique Cor had spent his career in digital technology, always searching for a path into wine since a life-changing encounter with a 1953 Château Margaux. François de Nicolay grew up among the vines, learning his craft at his family’s celebrated estate, Chandon de Briailles. Together they began with a single plot in Moulin-à-Vent, expanding in 2018 with the purchase of a winery in Lancié. Their guiding conviction from the start has been simple: healthy soils produce wines with energy and personality. After nearly two decades of organic farming, the estate achieved Ecocert certification in 2023, with biodynamics the natural next step. The soils are worked by horse, herbicides and pesticides are strictly forbidden, and minimal copper is used in the vineyard.

The Beaujolais Villages is sourced from 40 year old Gamay vines grown in the sandy granite soils of Lancié, sitting on the border between Morgon and Moulin-à-Vent. Whole bunches are fermented with native yeasts in concrete tanks using gentle extraction rarely exceeding two weeks, preserving the freshness and purity of the fruit. The wine then spends six months in oak barrels before bottling.

Bright ruby red in the glass, the 2022 opens with an elegant and perfumed nose of redcurrant, red cherry, violet, and rose, with a lovely blueberry note on the finish. The palate is juicy and crunchy with a lively floral complexity, soft tannins, and a clean, textural, dusty finish that speaks directly to the granite soils beneath the vines.
