Description
Edmeades Mendocino County Zinfandel
Edmeades represents the true spirit of Mendocino, known for limited-production bottlings sourced from the Mendocino Ridge and the Redwood and Ukiah valleys of Northern California. The winery captures the genuine character of the Anderson Valley, one of California’s last true viticultural frontiers. The story began in 1963 when Dr. Donald Edmeades, a cardiologist from Pasadena, planted 24 acres of vines and became the first modern grape grower in this cool coastal region. He established the winery and introduced the Edmeades brand in 1972, and the Jackson Family acquired the winery and its vineyards in 1988.
The winemaking philosophy at Edmeades is rooted in tradition and simplicity. The team relies on native yeast fermentations carried out in small, open top bins, along with hand punch downs and minimal intervention throughout the process. No fining or filtration takes place at bottling. This low tech approach allows the character of each vineyard site to come through clearly, giving every vintage its own honest expression.
A blend of 91% Zinfandel and 9% Syrah, this wine spends 9 months in oak, split between 57% French and 43% American barrels, resulting in a wine with layered spice and dark fruit character balanced by structured acidity.
