Famille Lafage Miraflors Rosé
The Winemaker
The Lafage family has been rooted in winemaking since 1798, passing down generations of vineyard knowledge and passion in the heart of French Catalonia. Jean-Marc Lafage discovered his calling as a young boy while working alongside his father, eventually taking responsibility for some of the family’s prized Maury grapes. His passion for winemaking deepened further when he met his future wife, Eliane, during their wine studies. Together, they expanded their experience across renowned wine regions in South America, California, South Africa, and Australia before returning to France to continue the family legacy.
In 1996, Jean-Marc and Eliane settled back in the Roussillon region with 36 hectares of family vineyards near Perpignan, Canet, and Maury, officially taking over the estate in 2001 and later acquiring Mas Miraflors in 2006. Today, the Lafage estate remains a true family endeavor, with Jean-Marc’s parents still actively involved and the next generation already showing a strong connection to the vineyards and cellar. Blending centuries of tradition with international experience, the Lafage family continues to shape a distinctly Catalan winemaking story that is still unfolding.
Commitment To The Environment
The Lafage family is deeply committed to sustainable and regenerative viticulture, using their diverse patchwork of terroirs to experiment with innovative solutions that protect biodiversity and address the challenges of climate change. Across the estate, organic farming practices, drought-resistant Mediterranean grape varieties like Grenache and Carignan, and regenerative techniques help preserve the fragile landscapes of Roussillon. Large areas of natural fallow land rich with native plants and wildlife are carefully maintained, while ongoing research with the Institut Agro Montpellier explores the future of viticulture in increasingly hot southern climates. The estate is also studying the use of biochar to improve soil health, water retention, and long-term carbon storage.
Beyond the vineyard, Lafage Winery employs a wide range of environmentally conscious practices, including organic-certified parcels, cover crops, minimal soil disturbance, natural vine treatments, composting of grape and pruning residues, and wildlife conservation through nest boxes for bats and birds. Advanced weather stations allow precise vineyard management with minimal intervention, and the estate continues to reduce its environmental footprint through renewable energy, lighter-weight bottles, and a large photovoltaic installation. As part of its long-term sustainability goals, Lafage has joined the International Wineries for Climate Action and is working toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
Miraflors Rosè
Miraflors Rosé is the flagship rosé of the Lafage estate, crafted from Grenache Gris, Grenache Noir, and Mourvèdre grown along the sun-drenched Mediterranean coast of Roussillon. Produced from 25-year-old vines planted in stony, pebble-rich soils near the sea, the wine captures both freshness and coastal minerality. Pale pink in color, it opens with delicate aromas of iodine, spice, and fresh Mediterranean herbs, while the palate is vibrant and mineral-driven with a smooth, medium-bodied texture and crisp, refreshing finish.
Harvested in early September, the grapes are gently pressed and vinified in a highly protective style to preserve purity of fruit and aromatic freshness. The wine is aged on its lees, adding subtle texture and complexity. Elegant yet approachable, Miraflors Rosé pairs beautifully with shrimp, sushi, grilled foods, vegetables, and summer tapas, making it an ideal wine for relaxed outdoor meals and warm-weather gatherings.
