Description
Fidelity Zinfandel
Tucked into the warm, sun-drenched hills of Sonoma’s Alexander Valley, Goldschmidt Vineyards has built an enviable reputation for producing single-vineyard wines of exceptional richness, quality, and balance under the guiding hand of one of California’s most celebrated winemakers. Nick Goldschmidt, a veteran of the craft whose name has become synonymous with precision, consistency, and a deep respect for the land, brings decades of expertise to every wine he touches. Fidelity is perhaps his most personal statement, a Bordeaux-inspired blend drawn from the finest fruit the Alexander Valley has to offer, complex enough to reward the serious wine drinker yet approachable enough to belong on any table without ceremony or pretense.
Fidelity is a harmonious blend of 76% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Malbec, each variety contributing its essential voice to the composition. The fruit is sourced from the Staircase Vineyard, perched at 500 to 700 feet elevation on schist soils that stress the vine just enough to concentrate flavor and build genuine character. After harvest, the wine spends 12 months in French oak, with 15% new barrels lending a subtle toasty depth without ever overwhelming the fruit, and is bottled unfined and unfiltered, a mark of confidence in the quality of what was grown and made. Earning 90 points from Wine Enthusiast and 92 points from James Suckling, Fidelity is a wine that speaks for itself.
The Goldschmidt Fidelity Red Wine pours a vibrant, deep purple with the kind of rich, saturated color that signals intensity and generosity before a single sip is taken. The nose is lush and expressive, a compelling core of black plum and ripe blackberry mingles with notes of dark chocolate, white pepper, and savory spice, layered together with the seamless complexity that only comes from genuinely great fruit and a winemaker who knows when to step back and let the vineyard do the talking. On the palate it is full-bodied, silky, and impressively structured, the Merlot’s signature richness and roundness carry the wine forward while the Cabernet Sauvignon provides backbone and definition, Petit Verdot adds suppleness and depth, and a whisper of Malbec weaves in a hint of blueberry and a deep, inky color that pulls the whole composition together beautifully. The finish is long, refined, and lingering, fading with hallmark finesse and a warmth that makes it a natural companion to steak, lamb, duck, or a well-aged cheese worth savoring slowly.
