Description
Jayson by Pahlmeyer Chardonnay Napa Valley
Jayson by Pahlmeyer Chardonnay Napa Valley is a vibrant, site-driven expression crafted by winemaker Katie Vogt from six distinctive vineyard sources across Napa Valley and Carneros. Drawing from the high-elevation tension of Stagecoach and Antica, the generous stone fruit character of Carpenter, the freshness and refined texture of Hyde and Toyon in Carneros, and the lively lift of Laguna Ranch, this wine is a masterclass in blending complementary terroirs into a cohesive, layered whole. The fruit was harvested between September 13 and October 14, 2023, a vintage widely lauded as a potential “vintage of a lifetime”, during a season marked by abundant rainfall, a cool extended growing season, and mild conditions that allowed for exceptional hang time and grape quality.
In the winery, each lot was barrel fermented and aged for 10 months in French oak, with 64% new François Frères barrels and the remainder in seasoned Pahlmeyer Chardonnay barrels. Lees stirring was applied selectively to build texture while keeping the focus squarely on pure, expressive fruit character. The result is a Chardonnay that strikes a beautiful balance between energy and richness, fresh and structured, yet lush and mouth-filling.
On the nose, aromas of Meyer lemon, ripe peach, crushed Marcona almond, and a touch of flint lift effortlessly from the glass. The palate opens with bright citrus before expanding into a generous surge of lemon curd, ripe stone fruit, and a subtle kiss of sweet oak. Vibrant acidity runs through the wine from start to finish, lending balance and driving the flavors long through a polished, lingering close.
An ideal companion to roasted lemon chicken or a well-appointed charcuterie board, the 2023 Jayson Chardonnay is best served around 60°F to fully showcase its depth and nuance.
