Description
Mas des Brousses Chasseur des Brousses Red Blend
About the Producer
Nestled in the hills above the Herault river valley just south of Pic Saint Loup, Mas des Brousses is the shared dream of Xavier Peyraud and his wife Géraldine Combes. Xavier, grandson of the legendary Lulu and Lucien Peyraud of Domaine Tempier in Bandol, brought with him not only winemaking heritage but Mourvèdre cuttings from his family’s vines — a variety that has since become an important part of the appellation’s identity. Since 1997, the couple have managed every aspect of their nearly 20-acre estate from vine to bottle, farming organically without pesticides or herbicides, working the soil minimally, and crafting wines that are as soulful as the family behind them.
Classification
Red wine · St. Guilhem-le-Desert IGP
Grape Varieties
50% Merlot (35 yr old vines), 40% Mourvèdre (10 yr old vines), 10% Grenache (40 yr old vines)
Production Area
From family vineyards in the villages of Puéchabon and Aniane in the Languedoc region of southern France, planted in glacial limestone and gravelly clay topsoils.
Viticulture
Farmed entirely by hand, including green harvesting. Regenerative practices include year-round cover crops and low-/no-till farming. All grapes are hand-harvested, transported in baskets, and destemmed.
Winemaking
Fermented in tank with pump overs during a three-week cuvaison, then aged in tank. Wines are fermented with native yeasts, minimal or no sulfur, and bottled unfiltered to capture the intense fruit and garrigue aromas the terroir has to offer.
Pairing
A go-to for a juicy, food-friendly red. Pairs well with grilled meats, charcuterie, and rustic southern French cuisine.
