Description
Olivares Rosado Jumilla
Fun and fancy free, Olivares Rosado is meant to inspire one to babble on and on about anything that brings joy. The wine comes from Bodegas Olivares, a family estate founded in 1930 by Pascual Olivares Fernandez in Jumilla, Spain. What began as a small operation supplying local restaurants and cafes has grown through three generations into one of the great value producers in the entire wine world. The family vineyard, Finca Hoya de Santa Ana, sits at 825 meters on sandy, chalk-rich soils at the highest elevation in the appellation, where ungrafted vines planted as far back as 1872 still produce fruit today, having survived phylloxera thanks to the sandy soils that the pest cannot penetrate.
The Rosado is 100% Garnacha sourced from estate parcels averaging 20 years old, dry farmed and harvested by hand in late October. Fermentation takes place in tank after a short maceration with the skins to pull just enough color for that bright, pale pink hue. No oak touches this wine at any point, keeping it fresh, clean, and true to the fruit. The result is exactly what a great Spanish rose should be: racy, lively, balanced, and dry, with the kind of honest, unpretentious character that Jumilla does better than almost anywhere else.
