Description
Robert Mondavi The Estates Oakville Proprietary Red Blend
Robert Mondavi founded his winery in 1966 with the goal of crafting Napa Valley wines that could hold their own among the finest in the world. He built that vision around To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville, a site now considered one of Napa’s most storied pieces of land.
To Kalon means “the highest beauty” in Greek, a name given to the vineyard back in the 1800s that has held true ever since. Located in the heart of Oakville along the valley floor, the vineyard benefits from a rare mix of ancient sea bedrock, gravel, and well drained soils, along with a climate shaped by warm days and cooling evening air moving in from the bay. These conditions have made it one of the most sought after vineyard sites in California, drawing comparisons to the great first growth estates of Bordeaux. Beyond its renown for Cabernet Sauvignon, To Kalon also grows a range of Bordeaux varieties, several of which come together in this proprietary red blend.
This wine is sourced entirely from To Kalon and blends Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot, making it a richer, more layered expression than Mondavi’s entry-level red blend.
