São Miguel Do Sul Red Wine
Portugal is the world’s biggest producer of cork, and the region of Alentejo is usually referred to as the land of cork. Portuguese cork forests are named by the environmental ONG as one of the 35 biodiversity hotspots on Earth.
This brand is a tribute to the land of cork, the same blessed land that enable us to to grow vines and make wine in this unique terroir. Made solely with native grapes to Portugal, this wine reflects our 3000 hours of sun in its aromas and flavors. Additionally, this cork label shows endless practical uses for this natural material.
Winemaker Notes
The soil is clay and schist. The grapes for this wine were harvested during the night for ideal ripeness. After total de-stemming, the grapes underwent an extremely cold soaking, followed by maceration before fermentation during 48 hours. The grapes are vacuum- pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures of 69.8° F and 77° F (21 – 25° C). Malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel vats with French oak staves. 10% of the wine was aged in 400 L French oak barrels for 6 months.
Tasting Notes
São Miguel Do Sul Red Wine is ruby in color, with violet hints. Intense aromas of red and black forest fruits with floral and toasted oak notes. The palate leads with those red and black forest fruits, with a nice acidity. Smooth tannins lead for a nice, soft finish. This wine pairs well with Mediterranean food, pasta dishes, lamb, poultry and assorted soft cheeses.
