Description
Tenuta Regaleali Nero D’Avola
Tasca d’Almerita has been farming Tenuta Regaleali in the hills of central Sicily for generations, and the estate sits high enough inland that the vineyards get real diurnal swing, cool nights following hot days. That temperature shift is what lets the fruit hold onto its acidity while it ripens. The family is a certified B Corp and a member of Sostain, a Sicilian association of growers committed to sustainable development, and the estate has been recognized by Robert Parker as a sustainability ambassador for its work in environmentally minded viticulture.
Nero d’Avola is the grape Regaleali has chronicled longest, now across 66 vintages of this bottling. The team studies the ripening curve each year and picks at the moment that delivers elegance and a balance between austerity and fullness. Fermentation happens in stainless steel with about ten days of maceration, and the wine then splits its aging, half resting in steel and half in 300 and 600 liter Slavonian oak barrels for ten months. That combination gives the wine structure without heavy oak influence, and the result is a red with remarkable drinkability.
