Description
Terrazas de los Andes Altos Malbec
Terrazas de los Andes was founded in 1999 on an estate in the heart of Mendoza where the first ungrafted vines were planted in 1929. The winery takes its name from the terraced plateaus that cascade down the foot of the Andes, with vineyards planted across altitudes ranging from 600 to 1,500 metres above sea level. From the very beginning, the philosophy has been simple: plant each variety at its optimum elevation to unlock the fullest, most authentic expression of the fruit.
The Altos del Plata is crafted from cool-climate vineyards selected for their ability to capture the pure, fresh, and spontaneous character of Malbec. At over 3,500 feet above sea level, the unique microclimate produces an intense yet elegant style, while dramatic swings in day and night temperatures develop remarkable aromatic complexity and natural structure in the grape.
Deep red with vivid purple highlights, the 2024 Altos del Plata opens with inviting aromas of black plum, dark berries, and cherry, lifted by notes of violet and white pepper with a subtle hint of toasted oak. On the palate the wine is medium to full bodied, fruity and fresh, with layers of forest berries, cherry, caramel, and gentle spice supported by smooth, well integrated tannins. The finish is clean and persistent, leaving a lasting impression of dark fruit and soft oak warmth.
