Description
Beefeater Gin
Beefeater Gin’s history dates back to 1820 when the Chelsea Distillery was established in London. In 1863, James Burrough purchased the distillery and began crafting a range of spirits, eventually creating the recipe that would become Beefeater Gin. The brand officially emerged in 1876 and quickly grew in popularity. Over the years, the distillery relocated several times, finally settling in Kennington in 1958, where it remains today. By the 1960s, Beefeater had become a major player in the U.S. gin market and was even served on the maiden voyage of the QE2 ocean liner. Ownership passed from the Burrough family to Whitbread in 1987, and later to Pernod Ricard in 2005, which invested heavily in the brand’s development. New expressions like Beefeater 24 and Burrough’s Reserve were introduced in the 2000s, and Master Distiller Desmond Payne, who joined in the 1990s, played a key role in modernizing the range while preserving its heritage.
One London distillery, nine stills and as many botanicals make The World’s Most Awarded Gin, under the supervision of the world’s most experienced Master Distiller, Desmond Payne. A quintessential London Dry Gin, Beefeater has a remarkably clean flavor, with a bold juniper character that is balanced with strong notes of citrus. Based on Founder, James Burrough’s original 19th century recipe, the botanicals in Beefeater London Dry are steeped for 24 hours prior to distillation resulting in a complex, yet perfectly balanced gin of depth & integrity. With over 200 years’ distilling heritage, Beefeater Gin was born and bred in the heart of London, where it remains today, as the only historic dry gin still distilled in the city.
